Isabelle Connelly Park

Description

Isabelle Connelly (1880-1963) was the first woman in Alberta to work as a licensed embalmer. Born in Ontario, Connelly came to Edmonton in 1901. Six years later she married J. William Connelly, and the following year they founded the province’s first funeral home. The firm still exists as Connelly- McKinley. Connelly was active in the Catholic Women’s League and helped establish a retreat for Roman Catholic women. She was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and the League of the Sacred Heart. Connelly was awarded the Lateran Cross in 1952. The Isabelle Connelly Park is in the Crestwood neighbourhood and has an area of 0.57 ha.
